Hi, I’m Dympna, a copywriter for Hospitality & Tourism and writing coach.

Your business lives or dies by the number of sales you make. How you speak to your dream customers influences every one of those sales.

Do you speak to their desires? When your copy is wrong they don’t engage, they don’t read and they don’t take action.

It can be a challenge writing the words that hit the spot and convince them you are their go-to.

That’s where I come in, my words will tell your story.

Trigger emotions. Make people do what you want.

No fuss. Simplicity. Guaranteed action.

“Dympna took on a 6 month project delving into my sales and marketing, at this time the property was undergoing a change from trading as a B&B to a self-catering villa and her guidance on the new website and its content was extremely valuable. She was a great asset to have onboard!”

My Story

It was the naughty nineties and I realized working in finance wasn’t cutting it anymore. So with lots of encouragement from my bestie and little regard for reality I jumped on a plane to Cyprus (oh, to be 21 again). I figured working a summer season in a busy tourist resort might shake things up a bit. And that it did. I never looked back.

Those six months working in restaurants and bars, buzzing with holiday makers loving life triggered my love of hospitality. So much so I came home to complete a degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management. My first role was in sales and marketing at a design hotel in Edinburgh. A very cool venue and hub during the Edinburgh Festival. More buzz – I loved it.

I knew for sure this was the industry for me and I’ve been here ever since, working for hotels, luxury venues, destination management companies and online travel agencies. Though Scotland is my home my itchy feet kept me travelling and I spent many years working in the Caribbean, in hospitality & tourism.

Cut forward to February 2020. Life was good. I was the Sales & Marketing Manager at a luxury Castle venue. Then overnight the world changed. Hospitality & tourism was decimated. Thousands lost their jobs, including me. It was tough.

To keep my sanity intact I put pen to paper and started to write, then I wrote some more, and more again. I like to call it my “therapy”. I discovered pretty quickly how much I loved writing on a personal level as I had done many years ago as a nipper.

The timing felt right to “up” my efforts. So, I offered to write for SITE Scotland, the Society for Incentive Travel Excellence. We launched a monthly newsletter during lockdown to keep members engaged and connected at a time when no one knew what was going on in the most challenging of times.

That was when the stars began to align. Writing was rewarding and enjoyable, and each day I felt called to write more.

My first official venture into the world of freelance copywriting came in October 2021. I was asked to write for the travel trade team of Scotland’s largest heritage member organisation – The National Trust for Scotland. Was I nervous? Hell yeah!

My first piece of copy was showcasing a selection of properties in four key regions of Scotland. I submitted it with trepidation, hitting the send button with one eye shut (you know that way). The response was amazing, they loved it and I’m so proud to continue writing for them. I am eternally grateful to the awesome folks at The Trust who believed in me enough to give me my first gig as a freelance copywriter. Rock stars. Word!

With 25 years experience in sales & marketing I’ve written reams of successful kick-ass copy for venues, hotels, villas, destination management companies and tour operators.

Helping businesses speak to their people, to achieve positive results is what I’m here for. It’s time to put down your pencil and keep your eyes on the prize.
